Website of the Week: jenkinsonassociates.co.uk

Yet another Website of the Week.

This time we’ve got  jenkinsonassociates.co.uk from Chartered Surveyors, Architectural and Building Consultants Jenkinson Associates.

There’s lots to like about this site. It’s clean, crisp, and the colour palette is very restful on the eye. There’s good use of images on the homepage, and the image gallery provides an effective showcase the architectural drawings. The contact details are clear on every page, and there’s good use of Industry trust marks. They’ve also added social bookmarking buttons – a good marketing touch.

When did you build your website?

Last month

Why did you build a website?

My stepfather wanted a better site than the crappy one he had done by BT

What do you like best about your website?

The fresh design and ease of use

What is your best website building tip?

Make sure you use good SEO otherwise your site will never appear in Google searches. Mine didn’t for 2 months until lots of tweaking was done.

Website of the Week: CresseysSurfAcademy.com

Time for another Website of the Week!

There are quite a few surfing websites that have been built with the WebEden Website builder, and cresseyssurfacademy.com is one of my favourites. As I sit in front of my PC, surounded by ringing phones and tapping keyboards, its great to gaze on such appealing images as people surfing.

This site is really rich with images, video, maps, forms and content. The design is very fresh and engaging, just the right image for a surf outfit.

When did you build your website?

June 2009

Why did you build a website?

To promote my husband’s mobile surf school that had just launched along the South Wales coast, following a successful year of private coaching.

What do you like best about your website?

It’s bright, funky, easy to navigate, full of information, useful videos and great photos. Plus people seem to love it!

What is your best website building tip?

Be creative – there are too many practical but dull and uninspiring sites out there. Plus keep it updated regularly to encourage people back. Create a sense of community and belonging. Be clear and informative. Use great images that speak for you. Actually that’s 5 tips!

Website Builder Tutorials: How to align new pages

Another simple but very useful video tutorial this week.

Great design is often about keeping it simple, giving your users a relaxed trip around your website. When you’re learning how to make a website try to ensure all the elements on your page line up. This makes it easy for visitors to absorb information – they don’t spend time learning where things are.

Is also important to make sure all your new pages line up too. Here’s how:

Website of the Week: oconelec.co.uk

Here’s another Website of the Week!

Here’s a bit of limelight for Plasma and LCD TV Installers oconelec.co.uk. Aside from being a big website and making great use of lots of features of our website builder, oconelec.co.uk have added in full ecommerce functionality. Its good to see.

Take a look (or if you’re in Aberdeen then why not get a Plasma TV installed!)

When did you build your website?

Why did you build a website?

I found that building my website actually reached more new customers than advertising in my local papers or national advertising magazines, now days people are more prone to do a web-search before anything else.
What do you like best about your website?
I like the fact that most customers have said they like how simple it was to work with & find what they wanted.

What is your best website building tip?

I would probably say include as much detail of what you are selling or advertising as possible, Customers are looking to be sold on your idea, show what you can give them.

Website of the Week: Nickelbooks.co.uk

Here’s another Website of the Week!

This time its nickelbooks.co.uk, which is the website for a real-life bookshop in Sittingbourne, Kent. There’s a lot of work gone into this website – it has a huge number of pages featuring lots of books, along with summaries and links to paypal. Someone has been busy!

Every since Amazon rocked up, Books and Websites have been closely entwined. But NickelBooks.co.uk shows you don’t have to be an international brand to have an effective web presence.

Website Address:

www.nickelbooks.co.uk

When did you build your website?

Started in november 2008

Why did you build a website?

So that my business would have an internet presence: it’s an independent children’s bookshop

What do you like best about your website?

I like how easy it is to update, add pages, add images, and being able to use an online shopping facility is very important to me.

What is your best website building tip?

Don’t be afraid to try new things! I started with one of the Webeden templates, but i have changed it all so much as i’ve gone along. It’s so easy to change everything on the site that it’s mad not to!

Website of the Week: reece-shearsmith.co.uk

A day late – I know – but its time for another ‘Website of the Week’.

We’ve got a bit of theme going here. Last week it was David Mitchell. This week its reece-shearsmith.co.uk. Reece Shearsmith is the star of (amongst other things) the League of Gentlemen and Psychoville. And this an unofficial site.

A couple of things I really like about this website. To start with it makes use of an intro page. I’m not a fan of these normally, but the image here is very effective – it entices the visitor to explore. The other thing this site does well is the forum. An active forum is a great addition to any website, but you have to make it a busy place.

Website Address:

http://www.reece-shearsmith.co.uk

When did you build your website?

April 2009

Why did you build a website?

I’m a big fan of actor Reece Shearsmith, and after searching the web for a site for him it became clear there wasn’t one dedicated to him – I took it upon myself! :P

What do you like best about your website?

How professional it looks, with HTML hurting my brain. I know basic HTML but not enough to build an entire site. I get so many great compliments on it. :D

What is your best website building tip?

Experiment! You can do near on anything, and if you aren’t happy you can change it!

Website of the Week: ThatDavidMitchellFansite.co.uk

Its Tuesday, its 1 o’clock, and that means its time for another website of the week!

This time we’ve got thatdavidmitchellfansite.co.uk. Any of you following WebEden on Twitter will probably heard of this site already, as Website Builder @Sharon4192 is one of the most active ‘Tweeters’ I know!

All this Twitter activity has certainly paid off in promoting the site. Its just 8 weeks old and it has already racked up over 14,000 visitors! I reckon we could all learn a few Twitter tricks here. Over to Sharon.

Website Address:

http://www.thatdavidmitchellfansite.co.uk

When did you build your website:

January 2010

Why did you build a website?

To promote and support the work of David Mitchell, UK actor, writer and comedian and to have some fun

What do you like best about your website?

We think its funny and well written and promotes David’s work as well as taking a humerous look at his life and personality quirks (very nice personality quirks). It has attracted 7706 visitors in just 6 weeks of operation. David has visited teh website and we’re pretty sure some of his work colleagues have too! [Ken: its just a couple of weeks since Sharon submitted this to the forum – see how much the visitors have gone up!].

What is your best website building tip

Keep your pages clutter free, too much information and pictures spoils them, that’s why we have just upgraded, because we felt some of our pages were getting too cramped!

What is your best website building tip

Just have fun with it. Try whatever feels right, and if it doesn’t work out it is easy to change back again.
Express your self for a truly unique website! :)

Website of the Week: eopeace.org

It’s about time for another ‘Website of the Week’!

This time we’ve got eopeace.org built by Fractal Design. Fractal are long time afficionados of the WebEden website builder, and eopeace.org is a simple and professional design. Over to Phil @ Fractal.

Website Address: http://www.eopeace.org/

When did you build your website? February 2010

Why did you build a website? It was for a client we are working with in Albania.

What do you like best about your website? I like the clean design and the featured photo boxes under the main menu

What is your best website building tip? Keep it clean and fresh, and minimize the content so the viewer doesn’t need to search through too much to find what they want.

Website of the Week: ruthslater.com

OK we missed one last week but its time again for another ‘website of the week’!

This time its the atmospheric ruthslater.com which has been built by Alison Cross from alisoncross4webs.co.uk. The site makes great use of image galleries, and for advanced users – notice the website search box from Atomz!

Website Address:
www.ruthslater.com

When did you build your website?
I started it for an artist client, Ruth Slater, a few months ago, but only recently persuaded the artist to let me redesign the site to better reflect her ‘brand’.

Why did you build a website?
I wanted this artist (and others that I’ve worked for) to have a window on the web. Staging exhibitions or renting gallery space is so expensive, a virtual shop-window is a much simpler and less expensive way to let people see what you can do.

What do you like best about your website?
the e-commerce pages – easy to set up. I used the option that allowed the thumbnails to be expanded – but made each gallery a 1 x 1 image. I think it’s a good way to show off artwork.

What is your best website building tip?
Don’t be afraid to explore lots of options that you have never tried before – the software is updated regularly with new templates and tools, it’s worth playing with them to see whether something that you weren’t considering might work brilliantly for you. If it doesn’t, it’s all easily changed again.

Website of the Week: brooketatephotography.co.uk

And here we go with another website of the week!

For your delight and delectation this week we have a personal favourite of mine brooketatephotography.co.uk. Its a very comprehensive website that showcases the work of Brooke Tate, and allows you to buy some pretty cool stuff too.

Website Address:
www.brooketatephotography.co.uk

When did you build your website?
I built my website in the November of 2008.

Why did you build a website?
I built my website to allow people to see and buy my photographs and photo gifts.

What do you like best about your website?
I have recently changed my website and logo to something a little more professional. I really like the butterflies in my logo and scattered around my site, I designed them myself on Photoshop. I also like how the colours are very plain and do not take anything away from my photos, but still has a dash of colour with the purple headings and links.

What is your best website building tip
Just have fun with it. Try whatever feels right, and if it doesn’t work out it is easy to change back again.
Express your self for a truly unique website! :)
