Here’s our second tuturial, we’re keeping things basic at the moment but don’t worry we’ll get on to some more complicated stuff soon! This one is all about how to edit text:

What do you think? Leave us a comment and let us know what you’d like to see next.

    Hi,

I’m currently using your trial version of the software to get a feeling for what it can do before committing to buying one of your packages. I’m not sure if the problem will be resolved when I upgrade?
Basically I have written some text in word and have cut and pasted it into the website. The text contains a list which has bullet points and the bullet points are ‘ticks’ rather than dots. This fits in to the theme of my website and my trademarked logo. I can also enter a tick using ‘insert- symbol’ in word. I have found that the webbuilder software does not recognise the ‘tick’ character and uses a dot instead. I’ve had a bit of a look around your image libraby and I can’t find anything that I could use. Do you have any suggestions? could you add a tick to your library ? I know it souds quite trivial but i think it is an important aspect of my website theme.
    Many thanks

    Hi Jayne,

We have something that might fit the bill.

If you look in the library under ‘animations’ and then ‘hand drawn’, there is a tick that you can use. You can customise the colours to your look and feel.

Hope that helps, please let me know if not.

    Hi Ken,
thanks for the reply. I have looked under ‘animations’ and ‘handwritten’ (couldn’t see handdrawn) but I could not see a tick. saw a cross but not a tick !
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi Jayne,

Ooops! I really thought there was one in there, sorry to send you off on a wild goose chase.

I think your best option is to grab the tick you want, save it as an image (you could do a print screen and then paste into into MS Paint), and then upload that image. Then you can insert that image whereever you like on the page.

Its a bit more manual but it means you’ll have exactly the ‘tick’ you want.

Good luck – please let me know how you get on.

    Hi Ken,

thanks for the further info for the tick quest !
I had already tried your suggestion, I got my tick from word, then saved it as a jpeg then uploaded it as an image.
    It worked !… sort of..
Unfortunately the tick imge comes with the background it has in word (white) so when I put it onto my grey webpage I have a white square with the tick in it which looks a bit weird. I had another play with it and made the background grey in word – then imported again. Unfortunately the grey was slightly different to the web page so it still looked odd.. Not sure how I get exactly the same background. Could do with a way of having the tick with a transparent background but no idea how to do that ?? any chance you could add a tick to the library ? would go well with the cross !
    MAny thanks

    Hi Jayne,

Sorry your Tick quest ins’t yet over! I’ve put a request in with the Dev team to do a tick, but I really don’t know how long it will be before they produce something.

In the meantime, do you know anyone with photoshop who could make a transparent background on that image?

The only alternative might be to blow the tick up and then cut around it manually in MS Paint so you just get the image.

Its a very long winded solution though – not perfect by any means.

    Hi again,
sorry to go on with this.. I kno its not the most interesting of topics!
I have done what you have suggested using MSpaint but I can’t seem to be able to save/import the tick without any sort of background.
Unless you have any other ideas I will await the tick arriving in the library !
    thanks again

    Hi Jayne,

Is it possible to cut around it exactly, so that the shape you save is tick-shaped? Or does MSpaint still add in a background?

Failing that, I found this suggestion on Yahoo answers:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20081027084903AAbl8bn

It seems there is a free program called getpaint.net that lets you save an image with a transparent background. I am in no way endorsing getpaint.net and can’t vouch for it at all – but just trying to find an answer for you!

    Hi Ken,
yes ms paint still puts in a background unfortunately.

great tip with the getpaint.net. I’ll have a look at that and let you know how I get on.
    thanks again.

    Hello,

Like Jayne (above), I’m currently using your trial version of the software to get a feeling for what it can do before committing to buying one of your packages. I have a couple of queries.

    1. I have had a good look through your T&C’s and I am not clear on how they relate to advertising. If I upgrade to your standard package, am I correct in my understanding that you (a) will not put any of your advertising onto my site and (b) I am permitted to allow advertisers to advertise on my site for a fee. This is a pretty important point for me as I want to generate profit from the site.

    2. I had previously built my site with another hosting service but am going to have to move as they didn’t have the functionality I needed (couldn’t embed a calendar/ insert a forum). However I really liked the effects I could attach to the text. In particular I was able to make each letter of my title ‘sparkle’ – I know this sound like a rather minor point but it forms an integral part of the design/logo of the site and I want to retain this on my new web-site. I have had a look around the page editor but I don’t appear to be able to do this. Any ideas, how I could incorporate this ‘sparkling letters’ feature?

I am a novice at web-design so all help will be very gratefully received.

    Many thanks in advance

    Geraldine

    Hi Geraldine,

    Thanks for the questions!

    1. Once you purchase any package (except the free one), all the advertising disappears. You are free to do whatever you want in terms of selling advertising on your own website.

The easiest way to generate some money from advertising is to run Google Adsense on the site. Here’ s a video tutorial:

    http://www.webeden.co.uk/blog/video-tutorials/website-builder-tutorials-how-to-put-google-adsense-on-your-website/

    2. Sparkly text…
I’m not sure that we have anything exact the same as that. All the text effects are in:

Insert –> Image library –> text effects.

Alternatively, you could use another program like http://www.swishzone.com/index.php to create whatever you like, and then add it to your WebEden site.

Hope that helps, let us know how you get on!

    Good morning

i am wondering if you can put a border around a page that isnt a square but a curve ?

    kind regards rob

  • Ray

hmmmm not using any webeden tools…. sorry maybe you could create a curved image in Paint or Photoshop!

Sorry i could not be more help!

  • http://evpollard.webeden.co.uk/ Emma

    Two questions:

    1. I want to change the title of my page (from Emma Cox to E V Pollard), but the editor will not let me do it. I can’t find anything to say how I do this.

    2. The advertising strip is over a quarter of the information on my page, making it unreadable, and you cannot close the advertising strip. The advertising used to go at the top.

  • Ray

    @emma,

You will need to go into the page master to change the title. Go to DESIGN on your toolbar then on the left click PAGE MASTER.

There is nothing you can do to the advertising strip as you are using a free site. If you take out a paid package all adverts will disappear.

    Hope that helps
